Séance du Club Oenologie : Portugal: a vineyard that reinvents itself

Portugal built its reputation on its varietal wines, notably Porto and Madeira. The rest of the production was not of international stature.

With political change, the dictatorship imposing a production monopoly, and Portugal's entry into the EU, many independent producers have invested in quality viticulture.

Today, the best wines are beginning to be exported and to compete at the highest level.

This autumn, James Suckling, the famous American wine critic, published his list of the 100 best Portuguese wines. I selected the top 10 and went on the hunt to acquire them. You'll have the chance to taste 6 of them, 3 whites and 3 reds, to respect parity.
